Mass Concrete

This underpinning technique is often called traditional underpinning. This type of underpinning is suitable if you require existing ground or floor levels to be reduced below your foundation level.

Mass Concrete underpinning is also suitable where the ground directly below the foundation is unable to spread the load of the structure. Using this technique you can transfer the load of the structure to a stiffer bearing capacity deeper down. Mass concrete underpinning is only economical for shallow underpinning (less than 3m bgl)

This technique involves excavating systematically in adjoining bays beneath the existing foundation, filling the excavations with concrete and then pinning up the small gap between the old and new foundation.
