What it subsidence?

Ground Subsidence is the motion of a the Earth’s surface as it shifts downward relative to a fixed point. The opposite of subsidence is uplift. Ground subsidence is of concern, where it can affect the structural stability of buildings. One of the key indicators of subsidence is diagonal or horizontal cracks in a building.

Underpinning is the process of strengthening and stabilising a foundation of an existing building. There are many different underpinning solutions depending on the cause of the subsidence. It is very important to determine the cause of the subsidence so that you can design the correct underpinning solution. Manning Ground Engineering can find the cause, design a solution and carry out the complete remedial works.

Underpinning Solutions that we can carry out:

  • Mass concrete underpinning
  • Permeation /Pressure grouting – soil stabilisation
  • Pile underpinningion
